    Understanding Arizona’s Electronic Visit Verification

AHCCCS has mandated implementing an Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) system for Medicaid-funded Personal Care Services (PCS). AHCCCS utilizes EVV to track and monitor service delivery and access to care for members.

    January 01, 2020

It was the original AHCCCS EVV start date. AHCCCS received a one-year extension due to administrative burden, COVID-19 challenges, and other considerations.

    March 31, 2021

The current extension required providers to start using EVV.

Arizona's Home Care Regulations & Facts

    Do you know?

The new Arizona law aims to protect senior citizens and requires agencies to disclose information like background checks, training, and service costs. Home care agencies are unlicensed and unregulated; new requirements will help consumers make informed care decisions. Some rules that distinguish Arizona’s home care industry from other states are:

    • While most states require a license and certification to operate, Arizona does not.
    • Arizona law did not require agencies to run background checks on their employees, which brought a lack of transparency. However, the new law mandates agencies to disclose this information.
    • Arizona’s minimum wage for caregivers increased from $12.15 to $12.80.
    • The new Arizona law mandates caregiver training, which includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid.

A home care management software can help you abide by changing Arizona’s non-medical industry laws. Record keeping, maintaining billing, and automating payroll can be easy with GPS-enabled technology.

    FAQs: Home Care in Arizona

Arizona is an open-model state, and its EVV implementation deadline was January 01, 2021.

Yes. Arizona has given its agencies the choice to use an EVV system provided by its state aggregator Sandata. Or, they may also choose an Alternate Arizona EVV system to meet business requirements or data collection specifications.

Every agency will have to maintain its employee information. However, Sandata will provide help to agencies with 80 or more clients. Sandata will aid with the one-time data upload into the system, after which the agency will be responsible for maintaining the EVV data. Additionally, home care software like CareSmartz360 helps with easy data migration through their open APIs.

The following is a high level summary of anticipated changes with the implementation of EVV:

Things that Stay the Same Things that Will be Different
Member choice of provider Elimination of paper timesheets
Availability of services Use of EVV devices
Member choice of individual direct care worker How member/representative signature is collected
How services are provided Verification is required by member/representative at the end of every visit/shift

CareSmartz360 can be used as an EVV solution in Arizona. It offers simplified data migration, award-winning support and 1:1 training to make a shift from an existing EVV-compliant home care software.

The state of Arizona does not require non-medical home care businesses to obtain a license. This means that Arizona does not have a government agency or regulatory body to oversee or regulate the delivery of non-medical home care services to customers.

Unlike many other states, Arizona requires home care providers to offer paid sick leave to employees.

As a live-in caregiver, you have rights to fair working conditions and a fair treatment under labor laws in Arizona. Some labor laws that cover these rights are:

    • Days off each week
    • Vacation time with pay
    • Paid public holidays
    • Minimum wage
    • Overtime pay
    • Maximum charges for board and room

You can simplify your life by utilizing CareSmartz360 home care management software. With the use of GPS-enabled technology, Arizona-based home care agencies may quickly check and keep track of caregiver training, visits, scheduling, billing, payroll, leave policies, and more while being EVV compliant.

CareSmartz360 has comprehensive reporting features to streamline scheduling & EVV reports. These reports help in taking your agency operations to a new level of efficiency. The scheduling and EVV reports help in:

    • Monitoring the caregiver performance
    • Tracking the number of hours spent on shifts
    • Monitoring time scheduled with time delivered
    • Tracking caregiver check-ins and check-outs
    • Monitoring client schedules, open shifts, and more.
